In this, the joysticks used in different devices have been made by different people. The joystick used in computers was made by Ralph H Bear in 1972. And an electrically operated joystick device was made in Germany in 1944.

1) Digital Joysticks
This is the most commonly used joystick and we use it at home. We can do this left, right, up, down. Digital joysticks are most commonly used. It can be rotated completely in all four directions.
2) Paddle Joysticks
This is a common type of controller. It has a knob which we use while playing games.
Analog principle has been used to control the paddle joystick and it is made up of a type of potentiometer. This is the oldest type of joystick.
3) Analog Joysticks
An analog joystick is a joystick that is a mixture of both digital and paddle joystick. It is made by combining both types of equipment. A potentiometer is also used in this.
4) PC Analog Joysticks
It was first shown using IBM company in their personal computers. It is a simple device which is connected to the computer through USB and Bluetooth. It also has many buttons.
5) Joypads
A joypad is a type of pad which does not have sticks. It is also commonly known as D-pad. It is an early device but even today games are played in it and it is useful even today.
