What is E-commerce?

In a way, doing business through the Internet can also be called e-commerce. Commerce means the exchange of any type of product or goods and when we do commerce through the Internet then we call it e-commerce. If we now try to understand the meaning of e-commerce, then we can call the exchange of goods and services electronically i.e. buying and selling e-commerce.
E-commerce is a medium through which we can sell and buy our products and services anytime and anywhere using the internet. If we buy goods or any service from offline shops, then we need to go to the shop, but in e-commerce, we can buy the goods sitting at home through the internet.
In this, we cannot see the product we are going to buy physically before buying it. In this, we see the graphics of the products online through the internet, and on the basis of reviews, and images, we can decide to buy any kind of product. Taking decisions means we cannot see the product physically like in offline shops.
History of e-commerce
From 1960 to 1970, businesses used to interchange their data through EDI i.e. Electronic Data Interchange. Since then, e-commerce started on a small scale, after which from 1980, credit cards, and ATM cards started coming and airplanes through electronic means. The process of booking tickets started.
After which WWW i.e. World Wide Web was started in 1989 to 1990, after which Amazon was started in 1994 which is considered to be the largest platform of e-commerce till date, after which E-bay was started in 1995, with the arrival Since then, e-commerce has now started reaching a big level and today Amazon has become the largest e-commerce website.

When any kind of product or service is sold by a business directly to the consumer through online, then we call it Business To Consumer i.e. B2C e-commerce, in this the product or service is delivered online directly to the consumer by the brand.

Advantages of E-commerce
- Through e-commerce, we can sell our product or service not only in a specific area but in every area.

- In e-commerce, before purchasing a product, we can see the reviews and comments of other people who have purchased that product, so that we can know about the quality of the product.
- In e-commerce, we can buy the goods we need sitting at home, we do not need to go anywhere.
Disadvantages of E-commerce
- While purchasing anything through e-commerce, we have to take great care of our safety and cyber security because illegal activities like online fraud, and hacking often happen.
- To buy food with the help of e-commerce, it is necessary to have knowledge of mobile and internet.
- When we buy any goods with the help of e-commerce, it takes 1 to 2 days for it to reach us and if the delivery location is a village then it can take even a week.
- New e-commerce websites cannot be trusted easily because it can also be a type of fraud.
- To buy anything from an e-commerce website, we need high-speed internet. If we do not have internet then we can buy anything from an e-commerce website.
